There are many educational classes, support groups and fun mom-baby activities available to the new mother looking for a break in her daily routine.

The first year of a baby’s life is a busy time for the new mom. Mothers who previously enjoyed social activities and outings may suddenly find themselves home a lot more as they care for their new bundle of joy. Moms may find they want to connect with other adults outside the home or just want a change of scenery. Here are four baby-centered activities mothers can attend with their infants.

Movies for Mommies

Having a new baby does not mean moms have to miss out on trips to the movie theatre. Movies for Mommies and Reel Babies are programs currently operating in theatres across Canada. Movies for Mommies is scheduled to open in the U.S. in the coming months. On select dates, moms can bring their little ones with them to a movie. The lighting is adjusted so moms can tend to baby when necessary. The theatre will provide change tables, microwaves and Excersaucers. The movie shown is usually light on plot, allowing mom to easily follow along while caring for baby.

La Leche League Breastfeeding Groups

Breastfeeding moms may face certain challenges when nursing their infants for the first time. La Leche Breastfeeding Groups offer instructional tips and support for moms. Accredited facilitators provide advice on proper nursing techniques and address any number of breastfeeding issues. Breastfeeding groups also give moms a chance to connect with other nursing mothers and share experiences. La Leche chapters can be found in most major cities and towns in the U.S. and Canada.

Kindermusik

Music programs are a fun way to expose babies to musical activities that will aid in their growth and development. In Kindermusik classes, music educators will guide mom and baby through various musical styles and movements. From soothing lullabies for infants to age-appropriate instruments for toddlers and older children, there’s something for everyone in Kindermusik. Babies can continue their musical learning outside of class using at-home materials such as books and CDs. Moms will delight in seeing how her baby responds to and benefits from this unique music program. Classes are available for newborns to children aged seven.

Salsa Babies

Salsa Babies is a great choice for the mom who loves to dance and stay fit. During a Salsa babies class, mom will learn Latin dance steps while wearing baby against her body in an infant carrier. Babies should be 6-8 weeks old to ensure that they have adequate neck control for the carrier. Infants will love the rhythm and movement, while mothers will enjoy the invigorating workout and the chance to meet other moms. Salsa Babies is offered in various locations in the U.S and Canada.

Mothers looking for a break from their routine will benefit from mom-baby programs offered in their area. These activities allow mothers to learn something new, meet other families and have fun with their infants outside of the home.
