Toddlers are a tricky group to buy for. This article will help you to find the gift that any child will love.

Toddlers have notoriously short attention spans making them extremely difficult to buy for. They may adore a gift for about five seconds and then move on to the cardboard box it came in. These are a few ideas to find a perfect present for a toddler that will catch his or her attention and imagination.

Gifts That Stimulate the Imagination

Children between the ages of two and three are just beginning to use their imaginations. A gift that can allow them to practice using their creativity can keep their attention and benefit them sharpen this skill.

Blocks are a good starting point. Plain wooden blocks or plastic blocks that fit together can be used to make buildings, garages or houses and everyone knows that block towers are fun to knock down.

Play kitchens are another choice to inspire imagination. Toddlers will love pretending to make food or coffee and serving it to their parents or friends. If a play kitchen is outside of the price range, simple play food and plates are an excellent choice as well.

Creative supplies like clay, paint or crayons can keep a child engaged and happy for quite a while. The gift giver can even include a plastic table cloth to use to minimize the potential mess. If messiness is a concern, there are markers and paint available that only mark on special paper. This way, if a child accidentally gets paint on the carpet, there is no mess to clean up because the paint is clear.

Sandboxes are another gift idea. Toddlers can build and destroy castles, use trucks and shovels to move sand around or just enjoy the sensation of sand between their fingers.

Books and puzzles are also terrific presents. Books that are durable and easy for a toddler to look independently are the best choice. Board books are very popular and a good option. Colorful puzzles with large pieces can make it easy for a child to play with.

Gifts for Active Play

Everyone knows a toddler has boundless energy. A gift that allows a child to be physical either indoors or out is a great idea. Parents will also be glad to have an opportunity to use up some of that energy.

All toddlers love to be mobile. Whether it’s a car or a tricycle, having their own wheels makes them feel independent. There are so many options available for ride on toys including cars, trucks, tricycles and bikes. Children will love getting on their car and driving away just like mom or dad.

Small swimming pools or a child-friendly sprinkler are warm weather musts. Many toddlers love water and splashing in a pool or running through a sprinkler means tons of fun.

Small children also love bouncy balls. Kids are just learning to throw and kick a ball so this would be a good choice for a gift as well. In addition to a simple ball, children may enjoy a child-size basketball hoop or tee ball set.

Buying a toy for a small child can be tricky. It’s hard to tell what might catch a toddler’s eye. These ideas will give parents a starting point so that they can be sure that the gift they give will be treasured.
