Caring for an infant while on vacation is a key concern of parents. Disney Land is a great family friendly destination, even for young babies.

Disney Land may be marketed as the “happiest place on earth”, but many parents worry about vacationing with an infant. As far as amusement parks go, Disney Land is very family friendly and there are many rides that your baby will be able to enjoy as well. A little bit of advanced planning and some flexibility along the way will help you to enjoy the family vacation of your dreams.

What to Take to Disney Land

Many attractions will not allow you to bring a stroller in, but there is always stroller parking available. Despite the hassle of having to unload your baby each time you get on a ride, a stroller is highly recommended. A day spent walking around Disney Land can be exhausting enough without the extra weight of carrying your baby. Your stroller can hold your diaper bag and help give your older children a break from walking throughout the day. If you have a sling or baby carrier, put it in the basket of your stroller for use during long lines or if one of your older children wants to ride in the stroller.

Your diaper bag can be your number one defense against high priced theme park prices and help you keep your baby happy all day. Be sure to pack a change of clothes for your baby (and your older children) as well as plenty of diapers and wipes. Before visiting the park, remove any valuables from your diaper bag so that you can leave your diaper bag in your stroller while you go on rides.

Sunblock is essential if you are visiting Disney Land during the spring or summer. Your baby can get a sunburn even on overcast days.

Bring a reusable water bottle for everyone in your family and store it in your stroller or diaper bag. Most food service locations will allow you to fill your water bottle with ice and water. This will help you keep you and your family hydrated throughout the day and save you tons of money on expensive park drinks.

Take Advantage of the Child Swap

Many rides at Disney Land will allow you to participate in a child swap program. This does not give you the option of swapping your child out for a better behaved model (although some days that may be tempting), but it does let you stand in line for rides that your baby can not go on and allows you to take turns riding the ride with your partner. When you get to the front of the line, one of you will stay with the baby and one of you will wait. After your partner is done riding the ride, an employee will take you straight to the front of the ride so you can have a turn without waiting in a long line a second time. This will save you quite a bit of time, especially if you are visiting the park during the busy summer months.

Know Your Changing Stations

Be sure to get a map when you enter the park and take note of where the changing stations are. Many of the restrooms have mothers' lounges that can be wonderful when you and your baby need a moment of peace and quiet.

Take the opportunity to enjoy your family while you are at Disney Land and pay attention to your baby’s cues so you know when he needs a break. Disney Land can be a wonderful place to take your family, just remember to be flexible and enjoy the day.
